Ancient Mystical Order Rosae Crucis
The Rosicrucian Order is a non profit, educational, mystical and fraternal organisation consisting of thousands of men and woman in over 100 countries throughout the world. It is also known as AMORC, an abbreviation for the Ancient Mystical Order Rosae Crucis. Though historians can trace threads of commonality in mystery schools going back to ancient Egypt (and beyond) our work in the present has evolved from a home study plan of the mysteries devised by a man called H. Spencer Lewis who used modern mediums for imparting and sharing knowledge with those genuine inquirers who choose to study the Rosicrucian system. His work started in 1909. AMORC was already established worldwide, though the process of sending home study lessons to students was well received and AMORC grew in number. The Rosicrucian student receives a monthly package of study materials which on average requires 1-2 hours of study and practice per week. Here in Australia there are around 2000 members with 60 of those residing in the Canberra district. Of those 60, only 20 or so join in group activities at our centre in Canberra, as a member of AMORC first and foremost studies on their own and there is no pressure or obligation to join group activities. Still, some of us are gregarious and extroverted in nature so we enjoy meeting with others of common interest and practice. The opportunity to serve the group and humanity exists in a multitude of positions, most of which exist purely to maintain the group's function. Our group in Canberra offers one meeting per week with activities such as ritual ceremony, discussion forums, member and public presentations forming its basis. As with the Swedenborg society we arrange for eminent members from interstate and overseas to shed their light on the group on occasion. We also hold fraternal days with other groups in NSW and usually host a weekend retreat every two years, the last being held at the Redemptionist monastery about 2hrs from here, in Galong.
I haven't said much about what Rosicrucians study and this is simply because our focus is on the enormity and wonder of life as we percieve and experience it. The average Rosicrucian is a 'walking question mark', probing their external reality while all the time relating to their world within. Concentration, Contemplation and Meditation form an important trinity in Rosicrucian practice and the ultimate experience of Peace Profound and Understanding remains the most common goal sought in this lifetime. The Canberra group has Introductory evenings, quite informal, where those interested can ask questions of its members and join us in a brief period of meditation and communion.
