Learning about religious things without using them to live well
Smyrna
Trying to live, but using false doctrinal ideas to guide us.
Pergamon
Placing all importance on trying to live a good life, but no importance
on using Divine truth to guide one thoughts and actions.
Thyaitira
Separating faith from charity
Sardis
Being in dead worship
Laodicea
Profanation- alternating between belief and action based on ourselves
and the Word.
Philadelphia
Being in truths that come from a state of goodness from the Lord.
The seven churches represent all the states that human beings can
be in when receiving the Lord's Word. Of the seven, only Philadelphia
is spiritually alive.
TASK
During the week, take time to observe yourself in public and private.
Do you notice these states within yourself?
If you recognise one of these dosorders, acknowledge it and ask
the lord for help in overcoming it. Read the Word, pray for strength,
and guidance, and shun it. Then try to have confidence and trust
that he will deliver you from any eveil and false states.
